Trip of a Lifetime, Until Next Time

May 28, 2018

We are back in London and actually ready to go home tomorrow. This has been the trip of a lifetime, but we are ready for our house and our dogs. That does not mean we didn’t spend a lot of the train ride planning and dreaming of our next trip to this glorious country.

We ended our stay at The Forest Side with yet another amazing breakfast. Evans discovered gingerbread pancakes with clotted cream and I’ve now had proper English Eggs Benedict. Yes, we have gained all the weight. No, we are not sorry. Yes, we are back on the wagon as soon as we get to Nashville.

We had opted for just general train seats for this leg of the trip, but after the crowds going north, we decided to upgrade to first class. We found seats and waited for the conductor to come by so we could pay the difference. He never came at all, we imagine because he could not get through the crowd of people standing and sitting on every surface in and between the other train cars.

Rather than have lunch we decided to have Afternoon Tea at our hotel. We selected their special Earl Grey. Not a great choice. I think I’m just an English Breakfast kind of girl, but Evans insisted that is not what Earl Grey is supposed to taste like. I could get used to scones and clotted cream though

We did a little shopping this afternoon, but, honestly, it was so overwhelming it was not fun. It is a three-day weekend here like it is at home and it is hot and sunny. Every person in London was out and about. Evans was a good sport because it was hot. We were both ready to call it a day.

I thought that was the hand motion for “all done.” It is actually the motion for “more.”

We are staying at Bailey’s Hotel which is next door to one of the top Indian restaurants in London. We had an excellent dinner. I enjoyed my Chicken Tikki Makhati although it was a lot saucier than I expected. Evans loved whatever it was he ate. It made him sweat. He seemed to think that was a good thing.

In the beautiful British Airways Business Class Lounge. If we look a little blurry, it is because we were.

England has been all we could have hoped and more. Audley Travel put together an amazingly tailored itinerary and we recommend them highly. It was the perfect way to see so much of the country and it is a time we will always remember and treasure. We are looking forward to seeing everyone when we get home.
